Centennial Airport, in collaboration with South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR), is the first in the State of Colorado to implement fluorine-free firefighting foam. SMFR's Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) apparatus Red 1, Red 2, and Red 3 were all loaded with  SOLBERG® 3% MIL-SPEC Synthetic Fluorine-Free Foam (SFFF) on March 26, 2024. SMFR conducted new foam training at Centennial Airport's ARFF Training Area on April 3, 2024.

This implementation of fluorine-free foam comes approximately one year after South Metro Fire Rescue dedicated two new ARFF trucks, Red 1 and Red 2, for use at Centennial Airport. These two 2023 Oshkosh 1500 4x4 Strikers were purchased as part of a funding collaboration between SMFR and the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority.

Our proactive efforts to mitigate environmental impacts demonstrates our commitment to becoming a global leader in sustainability. By adopting this eco-friendly firefighting solution, we're taking a significant step towards reducing harmful chemicals in our environment. We value our partnership with South Metro Fire Rescue and their unwavering support in achieving this milestone.
