As part of our long-term commitment to airport noise compatibility planning at Centennial Airport, the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority (ACPAA) has contracted with HMMH, a prominent national airport noise compatibility consultant, to update the Airport’s Noise Exposure Map (NEM) according to Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 150 (“Part 150”). The NEM Update will identify, inventory and report various airport operations and land uses, determine aircraft noise exposure levels related to aircraft activity, and evaluate the aircraft noise and land use compatibility at Centennial Airport.
The NEM Update is a fact-finding and reporting exercise to gather detailed information regarding existing and five-year future airport conditions, aircraft noise exposure and community land use patterns. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as the regulatory authority, recommends airports review aircraft noise exposure when there has been a significant change or at least every five years to determine whether an update to the NEM is required.
ACPAA completed the first NEM for Centennial Airport in 1999 with the most recent NEM being accepted by the FAA in 2008. Given it has been more than five years since the Centennial Airport NEM was updated and the ACPAA has acquired a noise monitoring system that collects aircraft operations and noise data, the ACPAA has decided now is the right time to initiate the NEM Update.
The NEM Update is expected to be completed by fall 2016 with a formal submittal to the FAA for acceptance.
Centennial Airport is committed to keeping the community informed about its facilities and operations. As such, all interested parties will have an opportunity to learn about the NEM Update during a public open house Nov. 2, 2016 as well as through information posted to this website. Prior to the Fall 2016 FAA submittal, the draft report will be made available for public viewing on this website and a second public open house will be hosted to present the NEM Update.
